ZanaAfrica's PAD Project

Today, we bring you a guest post from Jessica at the WOV Helpdesk, who shares her thoughts about the following movie from ZanaAfrica.

When young girls in Eastern Africa start their periods, or “P” as described in the video, they often times don’t understand what is happening to their bodies. They start missing school because their families cannot afford to buy pads. Since these girls have to use whatever scraps of cloth they can find, leaking occurs which stops them from participating in class. Grades drop due to multiple missed days of school and the dream of an education begins to dwindle.

ZanaAfrica is an organization in Kenya bringing health education and empowerment to young girls. Self esteem is being restored and questions about the reproductive system are being answered. They are even creating affordable, eco-friendly sanitary pads!
