The Power of a Story: Girl Rising

Stories can be told to entertain.  Stories can be told to educate.  The people at 10 x 10 believe that stories can be told to change the world.

10 x 10 is a partnership between an award-winning team of former ABC News journalists in association with The Documentary Group and Paul Allen’s Vulcan Productions.  The team has traveled to nine countries to tell the stories of nine girls through the lens of nine writers.  Two of these stories were filmed in World Vision projects.

These stories come together in the film, Girl Rising.  Often documentaries show the world from the filmmakers view.  The makers of Girl Rising wanted something different.  They did not want to just tell about these girls. The filmmakers wanted to show the lives of the girls; do more than just give a perception of the girls’ lives.  Nine women authors were brought in, from the same countries as the girls, to provide a bridge for telling the girls’ stories in a powerful way.

With Girl Rising 10 x 10 hopes to bring attention to the issue of girls and education, drive policy change and help support non-profit organizations it has partnered with, including World Vision.

You can be a part of this movement as well.  See how you can host a screening of Girl RisingEducate your community while supporting a movement for girls everywhere.
