Today eight travelers from the Charlotte Women of Vision chapter leave to visit Ethiopia and see World Vision’s partner Healing Hands of Joy in action. on a journey into the Ethiopian rural countryside and into the lives of Ethiopian women who have been afflicted by obstetric fistula. These are women, who in many cases, have been ostracized by their families and communities. We will gain a deeper understanding of what obstetric fistula is, why it is prevalent in Ethiopia and how fistula survivors are being empowered to prevent fistula in their communities.

During this trip, travelers will participate in the graduation ceromony and a foot washing ceremony for the 10 women who are in this month’s class of Safe Motherhood Ambassadors. They will also visit a beekeeping operation! And they will spend time in the northern Ethiopian mountains learning about the culture and people of this region.

Please join us as we lift this trip up in prayer. Here is a specific prayer request from the women of WOV Charlotte:

We are so excited about this upcoming trip, as we prepare to find things we have in common with our Ethopian friends. We share a love of God, hopes for our children and families, and a desire to make our communities better and healthier. We know that we are called to build up and support women around the world and look forward to coming back to the U.S. prepared to educate fellow Americans and raise awareness of the issue of obstetric fistula and the resulting social isolation. We will do all we can upon our return to support the work of [World Vision’s partner] Healing Hands of Joy. The organization is changing communities, one woman at a time. We want to be a part of that.

Please pray for safe travels. We also ask for your prayers for each of our team members. There are several women who have never been on a vision trip and claim to not really even like adventure and travel! Apparently, God has something in store for them in pushing them outside their comfort zone. Pray that our hearts will be warmed by the relationships we make.

We want to ask the Lord for His high hedge of protection, good health and for Him to be in the details,
to cover our fears, to multiply our time, to make us a blessing, not only to each other but to all that we encounter, to serve Him as Lord, to move in us, to calm our anxious hearts, to allow us to see his redemption, to follow the call He has for each of us, and to grow us closer to Him, as He shows Himself more to us. Finally, that He would give us a great adventure.

The names of the travelers are: Cindy Breilh (WV trip leader), LouAnne Vaughn, Debra Cordell, Kay Norris, Kay Jones, Julie Campbell, Barb Hawks, Betsy Liles and Rebecca Walsh.
