Our Favorite Gift Catalog Items

We at Women of Vision are huge fans of the World Vision Gift Catalog which offers more than 100 ways to honor a loved one by giving a gift that can provide hope, joy, and transformation for a child. Each year the WOV Staff and WOV Helpdesk compile a list of our favorite gifts for that year. Happy shopping!

Cindy Breilh – Strong Women, Strong World Fund. “I am so excited that Strong Women, Strong World gets an item in the Gift Catalog this year. Women are truly the best investments. Improving their lives helps their families and communities. This is truly a gift that keeps on giving.”

Jessica Anderson (WOV Helpdesk) – New Mother and Baby Kit. “My favorite gift catalog item is the Keep Newborns Alive kit! I have three friends right now that are pregnant and it has been amazing watching them prepare for this new adventure in their life. A baby is such a gift but can be quite stressful as well. I can’t imagine my friends having  to worry about their new babies not living past the first few weeks because they don’t have the basic necessities. These kits are such a stress reliever and will help new mothers fully enjoy and properly care for their new baby.”

Christina Bradic – Bicycle for a Girl. “I love the bicycle for a girl! It is not often that you can say you have increased the likelihood a girl will go to school, reduced her chance at being kidnapped or trafficked, and given her economic opportunities- all from a gift with just two wheels.”

Mary Gleason – Small Farm Animals. “I know how much joy animals bring to families! With this gift of ten ducks, two chickens and one rabbit, you’ll provide ample protein and vital nutrition — including eggs, meat, and more — for years to come. As the animals multiply, families can sell the extra food for additional income.”

Laura Li – Prevent HIV from Mothers to Children. “A friend of mine recently gave birth to a beautiful and healthy baby girl. It reminded me of how important access to health care is for an expecting mother. This is a unique opportunity to give vulnerable babies the best chance of a healthy start to life. And what better gift to give a mom than a thriving baby?”

Laurel Mullikin (WOV Helpdesk) – Solar Lanterns. “Can you imagine what it would be like if your home had no light in the evenings? I know that for me, my life would be extremely different. We know that education is one of the most important steps out of poverty but without light, children are unable to work on their school work after dark. That doesn’t leave very much time for studying when there is so much else that needs to be done during daylight hours. Not only can these solar lanterns improve test scores, but they are also a better alternative to traditional kerosene lamps which can be costly to fuel, become a fire risk and cause fumes that are dangerous to breathe in.”

Jeanie Ralphs – School Supplies and Clothing in the USA. “My favorite Holiday Gift Catalog gifts this year are centered on children in the United States. I’ve chosen Clothing for kids in America and School Supplies for U.S. Classrooms not only because both gifts multiply 12X but more and more we are seeing so many families in America that are falling through the cracks daily in a country that has been so blessed.”

Takia Thompson (WOV Helpdesk) – Child Sponsorship. “Child sponsorship is such a tangible way to not only connect and absolutely change the existence of a child, but to engage and impact a community as a whole.”

Beth Yeager – Sewing Machine. “My mother was a wonderful seamstress and when I see women who earn their living by sewing it reminds me of her. Giving a sewing machine not only provides income to a family but allows for creativity and expression of artistic gifts to share in a community.  I always admired those who could turn a flat piece of fabric into a beautiful piece of clothing or a quilt!”
