New report on under-5 child deaths

423306-APR_2015_8_Sep_15UNICEF/WHO just released the latest report “Committing to Child Survival: A Promise Renewed — Progress Report 2015.” The number of under-5 child deaths fell to 5.9 million. This reduction is great news. Falling mortality rates since 2000 mean that 48 million children’s lives have been saved. However, the world hasn’t yet reached the MDG target of all countries reducing child mortality by two-thirds, so there is still room for improvement—especially in low-income countries and fragile contexts.
