We’re continuing our Strong Women, Strong World country series, focusing on one country a month. We’ll share stories about World Vision projects from that country throughout the month. For July, our focus is Bangladesh.

Bangladesh has a history of devastating cyclones and floods, which have damaged crop production and increased food insecurity. The World Food Program estimates that more than 45 percent of children suffer from stunting due to malnutrition and 36 percent of the population lives below the poverty line. World Vision has been working in Bangladesh since 1970. Today, World Vision is serving thousands of children who are at risk of, or victims of, exploitation and abuse. We are engaging families, communities, and all those responsible for protecting children to keep them safe, help those who suffer heal, and support survivors in seeking justice. World Vision’s child sponsorship program plays a vital role in this partnership, with donors from the United States sponsoring more than 36,600 children.

bangladeshIn Bangladesh, World Vision’s Strong Women, Strong World initiative focuses on child protection. Trafficking of children is essentially trading in their innocence, dignity, and very lives. In Bangladesh, children are trafficked for sex and labor. They also are victims of physical and sexual abuse and forced early marriage. World Vision is working to protect children in Bangladesh and help victims of exploitation recover. We invite you to join us as we ensure implementation of Bangladesh’s human trafficking law, facilitate creation of sustainable victim identification and service referral systems, keep children safe from traffickers, and provide survivors with restoration support.
