India: Tuberculosis stalks the young

With an estimated 2 million cases annually, India has the world’s highest burden of tuberculosis, about 20 percent of the world’s infections. The World Health Organization estimates that each year, as many as 320,000 people there die of the disease.

Worldwide, out of an estimated half a million cases of TB in children, 64,000 died in 2011.
