Adelaine and Lukas, children of Anna Goodworth (WOV Hartfield, CT), have been learning about the abolitionists from the Civil War Era and modern-day slavery. In response to what they learned, Adelaine and Lukas wrote letters to President Obama, Secretary Clinton, and their Senators to ask them to end modern-day slavery.

Adelaine Letter

Adelaine Goodworth (age 5, almost 6) on why she wanted to write a letter to the President “I wanted to write to President Obama about slavery because: slavery makes me sad. It sounds too sad to be true sometimes. I learned about people who fought slavery in long ago. I want to be like Amy Carmichael (missionary in India who worked with trafficked children in the early 20th century) and help free people from India and everywhere.”

Lukas Letter

Lukas Goodworth (age 7) explains why he wrote a letter to the President and his other creative idea for sharing his vision “I wanted to write to President Obama about slavery because: I want to help stop slavery and all that. I wanted to do a Boston Tea Party. If I didn’t get in trouble, I would dump a bunch of slave chocolate into the water to tell our leaders that we don’t like it. My mom said writing letters would be better and not cause pollution. I wrote letters, but I still want to do a Boston Tea Party.”

Adelaine and Lukas share a vision of a slave free world with many children around the world. Today, will you join them in sharing your vision with your elected leaders? In 2011, the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act (TVPRA), the cornerstone of all U.S. federal legislation against modern-day slavery, expired. In 2012, Congress failed to pass the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2011 because of partisan politics. In 2013, tell Congress enough is enough; it’s time to put partisan politics aside and prioritize trafficked men, women, and children around the world. Take 2 minutes today and call your Senators and Representatives and ask them to support the immediate reintroduction and passage of the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act.

  1. I will call today and may we also pray for legislators hearts to change and be more sensitive to this serious issue which affects our children and youth!

  2. KP says:

If these children can voice their opinion and desire to stop modern day slavery, then certainly we can raise our voices to our leaders! I’ve made my 3 phone calls and have let everyone in my contacts know to call today!
