“Full Economic and Social Participation” for Women- Success at the G20
This is HUGE!
– Sandra Taylor, senior director of the La Pietra Coalition
Women’s economic development is not an issue that is taken lightly by La Pietra Coalition and The Third Billion Campaign, “a global alliance of corporations, governments, nonprofit organizations, academics, foundations and individuals dedicated to helping to prepare and enable one billion women whose economic lives have been stunted, underleveraged or suppressed to more fully participate in the global economy by 2025.”
This group worked fervently to have G20 leaders recognize the value of Women’s Economic Opportunity at the G20 summit held earlier in the month in Mexico. The results were amazing. The White Hose released the first clear mandate for women’s economic equality in its G20 declaration-
We commit to take concrete actions to overcome the barriers hindering women’s full economic and social participation and to expand economic opportunities for women in G20 economies. We also express our firm commitment to advance gender equality in all areas, including skills training, wages and salaries, treatment in the workplace, and responsibilities in care-giving.
Forbes magazine has recognized the significant role La Pietra Coalition had in making this happen.
