Free Health Clinic Means a Chance of a Healthier LifeIn West Virginia, gift-in-kind donations through World Vision help a West Virginia free health clinic stay in operation.
“The free clinic here in Clarksburg was really the answer of the community to the need for healthcare for people from here who had no health insurance and who had low income,” says Jim Harris, the executive director of Health Access, Inc. The clinic, in operation since August 1992, currently manages about 3,000 patients. To provide for so many, this non-profit clinic relies on support from community members, corporations, and organizations like World Vision.
“It’s a struggle for a lot of people around here who have jobs to even be able to afford the insurance that is available to them through their company,” Patricia, 64, says. “Without this clinic, I don’t know what I’d be doing.”
As director, Jim has his own perspective of the contributions. “[Donors] will never see the end of what they do by giving, but we see it every day and it makes a difference, a huge difference.”
